The second public train ride day of the 2026 season is officially in the books at North Georgia Live Steamers — and what an AMAZING day it turned out to be!

After a threat of rain leading into Saturday, the clouds cleared just in time for a perfect afternoon as the whistles blew and trains began rolling out of the station. The beautiful weather brought out huge crowds, and throughout the day we gave approximately 500 train rides to excited guests of all ages!

With beautiful weather and smiling faces everywhere, guests of all ages came out to experience the excitement of live steam railroading in action. Throughout the day, visitors enjoyed rides behind an amazing lineup of equipment, including THREE fully functioning steam locomotives, several diesel engines, and an impressive variety of rolling stock featuring boxcars, cabooses, passenger cars, and more.

The sights, sounds, and even the smell of coal smoke made for an unforgettable experience as trains rolled steadily through the property all day long. From first-time visitors to longtime railroad enthusiasts, it was great seeing so many people enjoying the hobby and sharing in the excitement together.

A huge thank you to all of our volunteers, engineers, conductors, and guests who helped make the day such a success. We’re already looking forward to the next public run day — and we hope to see even more smiling faces out on the rails! 🚂.

What an incredible day we had on Saturday, October 4th, as the Conyers & Hightower Trail Railroad roared back to life for our 2025 season! Throughout the afternoon, our steam, diesel, and battery-powered locomotives delighted riders of all ages, carrying nearly 700 passengers around the railroad in just three and a half hours.

This amazing turnout wouldn’t have been possible without our dedicated volunteer crew and all of our wonderful visitors — thank you for making the day such a success!

We’re not done yet! Join us for our final run day of the year on Saturday, November 1st, as we keep the Halloween fun going a little longer. The railroad will be decked out with festive decorations, and costumes are highly encouraged. Trains will be running from 1:00 to 4:30 p.m., so bring your friends, family, and Halloween spirit for one more unforgettable day on the rails!

The railroad operated three steam engines, one electric outline steam engine, and one diesel locomotive all day and our Gauge-1 railroad operated providing a great experience for all. We saw some familiar faces including some new ones who traveled from Charlotte to enjoy the day with us.

Again thank you to everyone who came out and made the day a success. We couldn’t do this without each one of you. As a not-for-profit organization, we rely on events like this and donations to operate the railroad. Our next public run day is Saturday, May 17th from 1 to 4:30 p.m. but you don’t have to wait until then. During our workdays, we perform routine maintenance on the railroad, work on special projects, and of course play with trains along the way.

What a way to close out our 11th season of operating on our railroad with eight steam engines and three diesel locomotives running on the railroad this past Saturday. A special thank you to our members, volunteers, and guests for making the day and year such a great success. The railroad may be closed for the season but that doesn’t mean the crews aren’t still hard at work finishing up current projects and beginning work on winter railroad maintenance.

What an incredibly beautiful day it was to bring the family out to ride trains this past Saturday. A big shout out to our friends from the Georgia chapter of Operation LifeSaver for coming out and building awareness to railroad grade crossing safety. We saw so many families carrying Operation LifeSaver bags full of goodies throughout the day. A special thanks to all of our club members and other volunteers who came out and made the day such a success. If you missed the day because your favorite college football team was playing don’t feel bad you have one more opportunity to bring the family out on Saturday, November 9th as the railroad closes out the 2024 train ride season. We look forward to seeing everyone around the railroad again soon.

The day started out with clouds and sprinkles throughout much of the Atlanta area but as the trains began to arrive the clouds lightened and the railroad stayed dry all day. Many thanks to our all-volunteer team making the day such a success. The railroad ran great, and everyone seems to be getting used to the new route that was finished during the winter months. The railroad ran mostly steam engines on Saturday but had help from the club diesel and members Davenport switcher to help all of the visitors experience the railroad. Our Gauge 1 crew also operated our elevated railroad providing many more memories and enjoyment for everyone in attendance. We look forward to seeing everyone around the railroad during our next run day this fall or if you’d like to come out during one of our workdays and learn more about what we do keep an eye out on our website or social media for the latest on our schedule.

What an incredible end of the 2023 public run season we had on Saturday. The weather was perfect, and the railroad saw the most steam engines in operation during a run day in recent memories. The day would not have been a success without each member, volunteer, and guest who came out.

What an incredible day we had this past Saturday. The day started out with beautiful weather and friends from Georgia Garden Railway Society (GGRS) stopping by before all the festivities began. We had three steam engines and a two diesels running the rails providing a lot of variety for everyone to ride.

What a beautiful day we ended up having. The weather forecast changed by the minute all week but by Saturday the skies cleared, and the trains came out. Our all-volunteer crew showed up early and got the railroad ready for operation. Check out the pictures and videos from both of our railroads in operation.

As the railroad opened one of our long-time volunteers LaVay made it out to help with the station. His stories and tails are always a fan favorite. The railroad ran very well with four trains running strong all day giving many of our passengers an opportunity to ride every train multiple times. Checkout the pictures and videos of the day.

What an incredible day we had on Saturday and a big shout out to our members and volunteers who made the day such a huge success. The railroad operated with six trains which included NGLS diesel, NGLS steam engine, Gene’s Berk, Peter’s 10-Wheeler, Wes’s electric steam engine, and Norms diesel. We also had the use of some extra riding cars from Dave E. and Norm. Sam and Norm ran the station with our new PA system while Susan, Charlotte, and Joan took care of the waiver table and concessions. Rick handled our ticket booth while Ben took care of the steaming siding and napping area. The rest of the NGLS crew took care of being conductors and railroad operations. This helped us have the biggest single day passenger count on record giving 711 rides on the railroad within a 3 1/2-hour period. That’s more than 200 riders per hour. This means our trains traveled around the railroad about 15 times throughout the day traveling nearly 15 miles.

What an incredible way to end the 2022 season with our last run day of the season on Saturday, November 5th. The railroad came alive with several steam engines, diesels, and battery-operated locomotives trains pulling passengers around the Conyers & Hightower Trail Railroad. The day would not have been possible without the all-volunteer staff of North Georgia Live Steamers and for that we thank each and every one of them. We look forward to seeing everyone next year as the railroad comes alive again in April. The list of dates for our 2023 run days will be announced in January.

We are so thankful so many came out to enjoy our railroad this past Saturday. The day was well attended and provided everyone a chance to see several different types of trains running. At some points of the day, we ran seven trains at the same time hauling more than 200 passengers an hour. We also want to thank our volunteer staff who came out and helped make the day a success as well. As many of you know we are non-profit organization and the proceeds generated during our run day help pay for all aspects of the railroad and more. Without our volunteers and those who came out to enjoy the railroad none of this is possible.

This past Saturday, April 30th marked the first time since we had a spring public run day since 2019. Thank you to all the visitors, club members, and volunteers who came out and made the day such a big hit. What an incredible day at the Conyers & Hightower Trail railroad with so many visitors after a nearly two year absence of running trains for everyone to enjoy. Over the past two years club members and volunteers worked on reconfiguring the railroad to provide such an incredible experience yesterday. The members of North Georgia Live Steamers and the many volunteers who helped make day possible we want to say thank you.
