We have several of ongoing projects that, as you might expect, need funding to complete. This funding comes from a variety of sources including individual donors such as yourself. During each year we participate in several of fund-raising events including our primary being giving rides to the public. However, the past couple of years have been challenging for everyone and that is why we are asking for your help.

During each year we participate in several of fund-raising events including our primary being giving rides to the public. However, the past couple of years have been challenging for everyone and that is why we are asking for your help.
In 2020 and 2021 we took care of a lot of projects including the completion of what we call our “Passenger Line". Now we are moving into 2022 and hope to fund several other projects like the completion of the “Grandma Line”, add a railroad signal system, and general maintenance of the railroad and equipment. With your help and our volunteers all of this and more is possible. But all this takes money.
So, if you have enjoyed bringing your kids out for a train ride (and inside aren’t we all kids?) won’t you consider donating whatever you can afford to assist us in bringing our model railroading to you. Today we are participating in GivingTuesday, a global day of giving as a way to support not-for-profit organizations like ours.
Please join us in our efforts to demonstrate a working miniature railroad to the public and educate everyone on the rich history of railroading in our country's history. To donation, please use the Donate button or you can mail your donation to: North Georgia Live Steamers, P.O. Box 1809, Conyers, Georgia 30012.

Container delivery for new shop and member container delivered
Friday, November 19th marked another exciting day around the railroad as we took delivery of two more containers and placement of two existing containers. We now have placed three of the four containers in the spot of our new club workshop and the remaining container has been placed in the member container area. The work crew today consisted of Gene, “Bob2”, Rick, “Bob Jr.”, Norm, Wes, Calvin, and Scott. Next step is to begin working on the shop and member container which will most likely be our winter project.

C&O 701 (2-8-0)
The #701 is prototyped after the real #701 located in Covington, Virginia which was built by Alco in 1911 and originally operated as #171 for Hocking Valley Railway. The following information is from rgusrail.com which highlights the history of this locomotive.
C&O 701 In Operation
In the fall of 2021 plans began to take shape to build a 1.6” scale 7 1/2” gauge version of the C&O 701. The prototype is currently located in Covington, Virginia and was originally built by Alco in 1911. The locomotive originally operated as #171 for Hocking Valley Railway. The following information and images are from rgusrail.com which highlights the history of this locomotive.
The Hocking Valley Railway was primarily a coal hauler, operating entirely in the state of Ohio, with a main line from Toledo to Athens and Pomeroy via Columbus, and several branches to coal mines in the Hocking Valley near Athens. Most of its life was spent under the control of outside railroads. In 1903, a syndicate comprising the PRR, B&O, C&O, Erie and Lake Shore & Michigan Southern acquired majority ownership. From 1906, the C&O began to increase its ownership until it gained outright control in 1910, although the HV continued to operate as a separate entity until merged into the C&O in 1930. At that time, #171 was renumbered CO #701 and reclassified as a G-5. For more information visit http://www.rgusrail.com/vaco701.html.
In doing some additional research I learned that the #701 is the last remaining C&O 2-8-0 locomotives still in existence. I have placed some pictures and videos below.

A short video of C&O 2-8-0 locomotives
Now on to the 1.6” scale version of the 701 which is actually being built off a slightly different prototype from the Pennsylvania Railroad H10 class steam locomotives and was built by Lima Locomotive works. One of the primary differences between the prototype and the H10 was the type of valve gears used. The H10 used the Walschaerts Valve Gear vs. the C&O prototype which used Baker Valve Gear. The 1.6” scale pictured was built by Godshall’s Custom Machining out of Shermans Dale, PA. This locomotive is the nineteenth 2-8-0 build by Godshall using the H10 prototype. This project provided the opportunity to show how the base locomotive could be adapted for other 2-8-0 Consolidation prototypes. By the time it is completed it will be very close to the real C&O 701.
Here are a couple of videos regarding the Godshall H10.
Estimated number of days until locomotive is completed (August 2023).

Here are some photos from Wayne Godshall, of Godshall Custom Machining & Live Steam, showing how an H10 begins. The first picture represents the locomotive frame before being machined. The second picture represents cylinder heads, and the third pictures is the lead truck boxes. The pictures below represent H10 Consolidation build number 20 through 25. Big week ahead of our last public run day of the 2021 season
Our final and one of our latest public run days to date will happen this Saturday, November 20th. We had a great response from club members who said they will be able to volunteer on Saturday and is greatly appreciate. We expect to have a pretty good turnout of trains which loading and unloading trains will be a little busy. Our normal social media advertising is reaching more people than usual which could mean we will have another great turnout and make for a great end of season event. We are also expecting a group from the Georgia Garden Railroad Society to stop in and checkout the railroad so make sure you say hello.

Impromptu workday recap for Monday, November 8th
On Monday, November 8th a small crew went to the site to complete the groundwork for the new club workshop containers and next member container. The crew, which consisted of Norm, Ben, “Bob”, Robby, Wes, and our favorite delivery guy Bill C., from Sheppard Trucking, who brought us about 18-tons of crusher run that was placed in between the forms where the shop containers are going. Rick also stopped by to jump into the story telling while Ben and “Bob” did a lot of the work. Next step is to take delivery and place the containers which is scheduled for Friday, November 19th. If you are looking for something to do on that Friday, come out and join in on the fun.
